Fire school

Our winterover crew at fire school.

Before we head down to the South Pole, the winterover crew attends a week of fire training in Denver.  This was a blast!  It was a hugely physical class where we learned how to do just about everything that would need to be done in a real emergency.  One of my favorite highlights was going into the burn building.  This is a building that they set on fire, so that we can crawl around in our bunker gear, experiencing temperatures of over 500 degrees F!  We also practiced putting out large fires, search and rescue, and general fire theory.  Lots of fun, and hopefully we’ll never have to use it for real.
