Another Halloween has come and gone, which of course meant drunken debauchery in Austin! This year I went as a perverted priest. Lots of fun to be had with a costume as naughty as that one! We went out at least three times during Halloween week. Once to Leslie’s party, once downtown on 6th street, and once to the Cannibal party.
Back in Mexico again with the Austin Scuba Club. It’s another great dive trip, and its even better than the last one. The main difference is that I’m MUCH more comfortable in the water now. I’ve been doing a lot of freshwater diving in Lake Travis back home, and that’s made me feel very good about my skills.Â
This time we’ve got a couple of underwater cameras with us which adds a whole new level of fun. None of mine came out great, but I’m sure I’ll get better with practice. The town of Playa itself has grown tremendously since we we came last year. It’s still nice, and I hope it never gets the traffic of Cancun or Cozumel.
Mardi Gras is always an amazing street party in Austin. This year there were a few police issues where the local force decided that they were going to demonstrate who was really in charge. Despite the cancellation of the street parade with floats it was still a great time. Our gang decided to dress up as pirates for the festivities which was a hell of a lot of fun! It’s always more fun to be part of the entertainment instead of just a spectator!
Every February Austin has its own version of the Carnaval festival in Brazil. It’s usually a two night party with samba bands, costumes, cheap beer, and just a great hedonistic time. This year two of my scuba club buddies and I went dressed as trees. We got green body paint and cheap plastic plants which we used to become self proclaimed "Kings of the Forest". The party itself was a great time, and just getting dressed up at my place was almost as much fun!
